Abstract
1,048,827. Conveying articles. PETRO ENGINEERING SERVICES Ltd. Dec. 24, 1963 [Nov. 29, 1962], No. 45216/62. Headings B8A and B8S. Elongate articles are thrown into vibrating hopper 40 and rise up channels 46 pass across gap 59 through which part-length articles fall and into tubes 52 which conduct them into polytetrafluoroethylene tubes 53 which feed them downwards on to endless belt 63. The belt is provided with fixed channels 78 above it so that the articles form lines which are conveyed leftwards to a discharge gate. Each channel is provided with a discharge gate having two components, to wit, pivoted grippers 89 and 90, and a gate 96 (Fig. 8, not shown). Each pair of grippers 89, 90 is pivoted at 94 and 92 respectively to a fixture and at 95 and 93 to a crossbar 83 operated by solenoid 81. Gates 96 (Fig. 7, not shown) are likewise operated together as a unit by solenoids 93 and 94. The solenoids are governed by switches operated by light beams 107 and 102 (Fig. 6, not shown). The effect is such that when the set of gates 96 is removed from the path of the articles the grippers operate to squeeze the subsequent articles so that one side-by-side row only of articles is discharged at a time by the belt 63. The beam lights 102 are individual to each channel and ensure that no article is missing. The articles may be biscuits.
