Abstract
670,607. Electrode materials. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Oct. 26, 1946 [Nov. 7, 1945], No. 16103/50. Divided out of 670,561. Class 39 (i). A secondary electron emitting material comprises an oxide or oxides selected from the group magnesium oxide, aluminium oxide and beryllium oxide in which is dispersed a metal, e.g. gold, silver or copper, which is removed by electron bombardment when exposed thereto so that the selected oxide or oxides is continually exposed. The base of the electrode may comprise nickel, gold-plated molybdenum or platinum. Nickel is usually coated with magnesium to a thickness of 10<SP>-6</SP> inches. Magnesium oxide added to a colloidal suspension of gold in water is sprayed on to a thickness of at least 10<SP>-4</SP> inches, or magnesium oxide added to an oily suspension of gold is burnt on the base, the coating being afterwards formed at red heat in air.
