Abstract

670,308. Wire couplings. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Aug. 17,1949 [Oct. 29, 1948], No. 21400/49. Class 38 (i). [Also in Groups XXII and XL (a)] A method of making an electrical connection to a non-weldable member, such as a tungsten heater coil 20 for an indirectly-heated cathode, comprises surrounding an end of the member with a sleeve 22, for example of nickel, which may be cylindrical initially, and crimping the sleeve in a taper over the end of the member. A nickel lead may then be welded to the nickel sleeve. The tungsten coil may have an insulating coating, but the coating does not extend inside the sleeve ; an insulating coating may be applied over the sleeve after the connection is made.
