A long recoil shotgun, of the kind having a cartridge magazine 1a, Fig. 5, extending below the barrel 1, comprises five groups of elements as described below each group being connected to another by manually disengageable means which do not require the use of tools. The gun illustrated has the features of that forming the subject of Specification 649,519. The first group comprises the butt 3, cartridge magazine 1a, recuperating spring 9, the breech block and its return spring, and a magazine cover 6. Upon the removal of a thumbscrew 5, Fig. 3, the cover 6 can be taken off thus permitting the removal of the second group, namely the barrel 1, as shown in Fig. 5. Another group consists of the percussion, firing and cocking mechanism of the form illustrated in Fig. 8 of Specification 649,519, this group having axially removable pivot pins for the hammer and trigger and being removable from the stock after the withdrawal of a pin 10, Fig. 9. The depression of a spring pressed plunger permits the withdrawal of a U-shaped member 24 which then allows removal of the fourth group, namely the cover 22 of the firing mechanism. A fifth group, Fig. 16 (not shown), consists of the unit which includes the ejector and the means for locking the breech-block in the firing position.
