Abstract

1,136,604. Automatic firearms. F. LLI BENELLI G. F. & C., S.A.S. 21 Dec., 1965 [8 Aug., 1965], No. 54109/65. Heading F3C. A single-barrelled automatic shotgun comprises a cartridge magazine disposed in the trigger guard element 3 and continued into the stock and a lifter arranged at the forward end of the magazine. The lifter consists of a first part having two arms 12, 13 (not shown), and a plate 11 pivoted on a positioner 17 which is spring- loaded and mounted in the carcass of the rifle for movement toward the lifter. A second part 24 of the lifter is pivoted about the end of the first part adjacent the magazine and is provided with a part cylindrical seat which supports a cartridge during the lifting operation. Cartridges are introduced into the magazine manually by pivoting the lifter upwardly about its first part pivot, the cartridges being held in the magazine by the lifter in its inactive position. When the rifle has been fired the barrel 1 and breech 2 recoil together and as these return to the holding position a cam of the breech causes the lifter to pivot downwardly whence a cartridge is spring-urged on to the lifter (Fig. 3, not shown). During the last part of its travel on to the lifter the cartridge causes a lever 30 to be released and swing under spring-loading to engage a stud 27 of the second part 24 and urge this part and thus the cartridge upwardly into a position whence it can be introduced into the barrel by the breechblock 29 which is released by the movement of the lever 30.
