Abstract

669,550. Follow-up systems. SPERRY CORPORATION. Feb. 26, 1948. [Aug. 19, 1943] No. 5810/48. Class 40 (i). A tracking device mounted on a ring 58 is actuated by a motor 84 to follow.a manually set sight 31, employing a misalignment signal at 366 opposed by a signal at 182 proportional to the speed of the motor 84 and opposed at 198 by a signal proportional to the rate of change of the torque of the motor 84. Relative phase displacements of windings 222, 362 are compared at 364 to produce a direct current primary signal at 366 proportional in sense and magnitude to misalignment of the tracking device. The signal at 366 is amplified at 128, 129, 131, 132 and applied to the field of a generator 82 driven at constant speed and supplying the armature 177 of the motor 84. A resistor 197 and.capacitor 199 are so arranged in parallel with a resistor 191 in the circuit of the armature 177 that the voltage across 197 produces a component proportional to the rate of change of torque of the motor 84. This component is added at 181 to a component proportional to the speed of the motor 84 and the resultant signal applied to 128, both components opposing the primary signal applied at 129. A voltage proportional to the torque of the motor 84 is introduced at 196 by a tapped resistor, and combined with the signal applied to 129 in a sense assisting the primary signal. The component produced at 197 avoids hunting at a frequency such that the signals applied at 128, 129 are 180 degrees out of phase.
