Abstract

669,541. Control of motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO.. Ltd.. and RAYDEN, R. G. Nov. 30, 1948. [Dec. 4, 1947] No. 32075/47. Class 38 (iii). [Also in Group IX] Apparatus for varying the speed of ring spinning frame spindles during the build-up of the cop, comprises a motor driving the spindles. an electronic device 2 adapted to control the motor in response to a control voltage, and means for supplying to the electronic device a control voltage having a basic component which is a function of the position of the ring rail 10, and an oscillatory component which corresponds to the oscillations of the ring rail, whereby cyclic variations in the linear speed of yarn being wound on to the bobbin are eliminated or reduced in amplitude. As the cop is being built the ring rail oscillates and also rises progressively so that the arm 5 of rheostat X copies this movement, the intercoupled arms 6, 7, of rheostats Y, Z, being moved intermittently since coupling 3 allows lost-motion between shafts 8 and 14. The alternating potentialdifference between the arms 5 and 6 provides the control component of input voltage for the device 2 affording the desired cyclic variation of spindle-speed, this potential-difference rising to a maximum value which then remains constant throughout the remainder of the cycle. Rheostat Z provides the control component for the basic speed, zones 26, 27, 28 relating respectively to the initial acceleration period, constant basic speed, and deceleration. Voltages corresponding to desired values of initial, maximum, and final basic speeds are obtained from potentiometer rheostats A, B, and C which are connected to a direct-voltage source independent of that from which the parallelconnected. rheostats X and Y are energized. Specification 549,077 is referred to.
