668,004. Splitting hides. SIMON, A. March 22, 1950 [March 22, 1949], No. 7230/50. Class 31 (i). A machine for splitting hides comprises a casing 2 having a perforated upper plate 1, the perforations being more dense in the cutting area so that the suction effect produced by airexhausting means 3 connected to the casing will be greater in that area, an endless perforated hide-supporting belt 6 driven towards the cutting area, a band cutter 10 moved at high speed across the endless belt and sharpened by means of grinding-wheels, a resilient roller 16 for moving and pressing the hide against the cutter, and micrometric means 9 for adjusting the height of the casing and belt assembly. The cutter is driven over a pair of wheels by means of an electric motor and is mounted in a guide 12 having a series of rollers 13 which bear against the non-cutting edge of the cutter, and the latter can be moved towards the endless belt by means of adjusting devices 14.
