A portable mirror comprises a mirror M connected by a universal joint to a bracket arm B pivotally connected to a stud 3 attached to a spring- loaded suction-mounting diaphragm D in a housing H. The arm pivot 10 is offset from the axis of the arm and when the arm is turned into alignment with the stud 3 the suction diaphragm is forced outwards to break the vacuum.
