An adjustable wooden prop for supporting floor &c. shuttering comprises a main part 1, Figs. 1, 3, e.g. of cruciform section, having at one end a longitudinal gap 4 formed by a pair of planks 2a, 2b between which is guided a lengthening piece 5, Fig. 4 of H-section, the side parts 6a, 6b of which slidably engage with the edges of 'the planks 2a, 2b, ,and the prop being adjusted in height by wedges 7a, 7b inserted in the gap 4 between the end .of the main prop part 1 and the central portion 10 of the lengthening piece 5. Flat iron transverse braces 8, 9 embrace the lengthening piece 5 leaving gaps 8a, 9a, Fig. 4 which receive the planks 2a, 2b. Braces 11, 14 are also secured to the planks 2a, 2b. Two such props may be combined end-to-end by means of a single lengthening piece, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown) which engages between the planks 2a, 2b of both props, adjustment of the combined props being effected by a single pair of wedges. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a prop in which the main part, having no longitudinal gap therein, engages at one end in a tubular member comprising the lengthening piece and having oppositely disposed longitudinal slots adapted to receive the adjusting wedges which are inserted between the base of the tubular member and the end of the main prop part. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
