Abstract
665,637. Ventilation. SOC. ANON. DES ETABLISSEMENTS NEU, and DENIS, L. Feb. 28, 1949 [May 19, 1948], No. 5450/49. Addition to 638,030. Class 137 The air conditioning system according to the parent Specification is modified in that the two air compressors can be connected either in series, to obtain the necessary degree of cooling under summer conditions or in parallel, to cater for winter conditions, when the whole of the ventilation air passes through the compressors and is warmed as required by supplying warm instead of cold water to the coolers. Fig. 1 shows the plant set for summer conditions. Air enters the inlet 2 and passes to a compressor 5 which forces it through a cooler 7 where some of its moisture condenses. It then passes into a second compressor 1 which forces it through a second cooler 8, wherein more moisture is deposited, and into a turbine expander 6, which drives the compressor 5 and serves to expand and cool the air, which then passes into a balancer chamber 9. The pressure in this chamber, as determined by the demand of the system for air, controls the speed of compressor 1 through a manostat 10 and throttle valve 4. The cold, dry air from chamber 9 is led to each compartment served, to be mixed with recirculated or " outside " air delivered by a fan 13, the mixing being varied by a valve 24 controlled by a thermostat 25. The air humidity is then adjusted in a chamber 31, the amcunt of moisture added being controlled by a humidostat 33 operating a valve 35. Under winter conditions the fan 13 is shut off and the compressors connected in parallel by turning valves 43 and 45 through 90 degrees as indicated, warm water then being supplied to the coolers 7 and 8.
