Abstract

664,062. Securing wiper arms to spindles. O'SHEI, W. E. May 15, 1950 [March 16, 1949], No. 7244/49. Class 80 (ii) The arm 1 of a windscreen wiper is secured to the driving spindle 24 by a nut 10 screwing into a counter bore 11 and thereby clamping a collet 9 into a tapered bore 8, so that the collet is compressed onto the driving spindle. The collet 9 is enlarged or spun over at 14 so as to be interlocked with the nut 10-although the two may rotate relative to each other-in order that the nut may withdraw it from the tapered bore 8 on unscrewing; the collet also has a longitudinal slot 22 and a slit 23. The driving spindle 24 may have a transverse pin 25 which slides into the slots 22, 23. In a modification (not shown) a cylindrical or slightly tapered adaptor member is placed between the collet 9 and the driving spindle 24, the spindle being clamped to the adaptor by screw means. The adaptor may also have a transverse slot to receive a coupling pin passing through the boss. Specifications 497,366 and 645,091 are referred to.
