Abstract
661,864. Generating combustion products under pressure. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. Nov. 18, 1948 [Dec. 2, 1947], No. 31826/47. Class 51 (i). A combustion system comprises a plurality of flame tubes 1 arranged symmetrically about a common axis and discharging into one end of a common tubular mixing chamber 3. The length of the mixing chamber is at least equal to that of the flame tubes. Air flows in an upstream direction through the annular passage 9 surrounding the mixing chamber 3 and then through the annular passages 11 surrounding the flame tubes, reversing in direction to enter the flame tubes. The air passing through the annular entries 14 maintains a layer of cool air between the hot gases and the flame tube walls. Further annular casings 12 are provided around the casings 10. Cooling air may be admitted to the mixing chamber 3 through the lateral openings 18. Specifications 636,623 and 636,624 are referred to.
