661,679. Setting type; printing -surfaces; printing-machines. DREYER, P. Dec. 23, 1948, No. 33187/48. Classes 100 (ii) and 100 (iii). Typesetting machines; platen machines. The type A, Fig. 2, is set in line by the operation of a keyboard, and while it is in the position in which it was set it is inked and thereafter a transparent web is brought into printing contact with it so as to form a negative for further reproduction by photographic methods. After inking, a blanket O is brought against the type by means of a pressure head E, the pressure being adjustable by varying the eccentricity of the drive F. Rollers J', J<SP>2</SP> advance the blanket after the imprinting of each line. The blanket is withdrawn, the type re-inked, and composition paper R on a carriage including guides K and rollers H', H<SP>2</SP> for forwarding and removing the paper, is moved laterally between the type and blanket, and the head E then moves the paper and blanket against the type, so that the paper is printed on both sides. Inking-apparatus. Several inking rolls C, Figs 2 and 3, are reciprocated in guides N past the type to ink it. Printing-surfaces. The heads B<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>2</SP> of the type may be formed integrally with their base, or the base may be made as a matrix into which a separate lead type is inserted and fixed by heating the back of the base with a soldering iron.
