Abstract

661,389. Discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 7, 1948 [July 8, 1947], No. 18318/48. Class 39 (i). An annular container for a discharge device is closed at each end by annular headers and has concentric cooling jackets on its inner and outer walls. Flanged headers 3, 4 are welded to the metal walls 1, 2 and carry an annular graphite anode 14 through studs 15, contact caps 15<SP>1</SP>, glass seals 16 and flanges 17. An ignition electrode 18 dips into the mercury cathode 13 and spiral vanes or wires 9 join spacers for water-cooling jackets which are welded at their ends to the wall flanges 10. Contact studs 20 are brazed to the header 4.
