Abstract
661,252. Preserving natural rubber latex. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. Aug. 30. 1949 [Sept. 11, 1948], No. 22498/49. Class 70 Natural rubber latex is preserved by adding formaldehyde and a condensation product of formaldehyde and an alkali metal salt of an aryl sulphonic acid. An amine from the group consisting of di- and tri-methylamine, di- and tri-ethylamine and morpholine may also be added. The amount of formaldehyde is preferably from 0.1 to 1.0 per cent so that the pH is reduced to about 5.5 to 6.8. The preferred alkalimetal salt is sodium naphthalene sulphbnate and the condensation product derived therefrom is preferably added in an amount of 0.05 to 1.0 per cent.
