Abstract
660,606. Vehicle wheels. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Dec. 21, 1948 [Nov. 21, 1947], No. 32960/48. Divided out of 660,560. Class 144 (i). A resilient wheel for railway vehicles comprises elastic units, fitted between relativelymovable hub and wheel-body portions, each formed by concentrically - spaced elements coupled together by rubber bonded to the elements. In the form shown in Fig. 1, rubber rings 6 are bonded to sleeves 4, 5 fitted in apertures in the centre of the wheel-body 2 which is clamped between fixed and detachable hub-flanges 1a and 8 respectively by bolts 7. A space 12 is provided between the wheel centre and the hub 1 and, to permit limited axial displacement of the wheel parts, rubber washers 10 with metal facing-plates 10a are fitted between the wheel-centre and the hub flanges. Fig. 3 shows a modified form of resilient element comprising two staggered pairs of rubber sectors 24, 25, connected by thinner webs 24a, 25a, fitted between concentric metal sleeves 21, 22, 23. Fig. 4 shows a modified form of wheel in which the part 14a of the hub 14 is housed, with radial and axial clearances, between a fixed flange 15c on the wheel-centre 15b and a collar 20 secured by transverse bolts 17. In this modification, the rubber cushions 19 are bonded to metal sleeves and the bolts 17. Specification 660,560 is referred to.
