Abstract
660,152. Endless-chain conveyers. REDLER CONVEYORS, Ltd. April 6, 1950. [Jan. 12, 1949] No. 883/49. Class 78 (i). [Also in Group XXXII] An adjustably positioned roller 29, Fig. 1. engages the return run of the endless member 17 of an en-masse conveyer at a part which normally hangs in a catenary, for ensuring a steady of the conveying member. In one embodiment, Fig. 3, roller 29 is freely rotatable on a shaft 30 the ends of which are secured to blocks 31, 32 in which long bolts 38 are rotatably anchored. The bolts 38 are in threaded engagement with guides 33, 34 on the conveyer casing so that by turning them the blocks are moved in slots in the guides which extend perpendicularly to the run of the chain at that point. In a second embodiment, Figs. 4, 5, roller 29 is carried by an arm 39 pivoted at 40 to the conveyer casing. A dash-pot cylinder 41 is pivotally connected between the arm 39 and a shaft 43 in the casing. Surrounding the shaft 43, Fig. 5, is a sealed reservoir 44 which is filled with oil. A normally closed valve 48 opens against pressure of spring 52 when the piston 56 is lowered admitting oil into the cylinder. On piston 56 rising however, the fluid can only escape through a passage 58 and over a ball 60 pressed into a seating by an adjustably tensioned spring 61. Upward of the roller 29 is thus resisted strongly whereas downward movement may take place freely.
