Abstract

659,659. Gyroscopic apparatus. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. June 14, 1949, No. 15853. Convention date, Dec. 29, 1948. [Class 97 (iii)] Restraining springs for a rate gyro comprise two cantilever springs 21, 22 fixed in opposing relationship to a bifurcated mounting block 16 which is clamped by a screw 17 to the gimbal trunnion 12 for rotation therewith and a fixed member 25 adapted to be engaged by the opposing faces of the springs. As shown, the mounting block 16, the springs 21, 22 and the member 25 are mounted externally of the instrument casing 11. The member 25 is preferably formed by a cylinder rotatably mounted on a stud shaft 26 which is integral and concentric with a nut 28 eccentrically mounted on the casing 11. Rotation of the nut 28 thereby allows the adjustment of the null position. The diameter of the cylinder 25 is slightly larger than the width of the block 16 to permit a slight bias to be exerted by the springs 21, 22. The springs 21, 22 are fastened to the block 16 by plates 20 having enlarged slots 23 which allow adjustment of the length of the springs.
