Abstract
Comminuted refractory metals of Group IV of the Periodic System, and their alloys, are fused in an inert atmospheric environment in a container formed from a fused mixture of zirconium oxide and one or more of the oxides of the alkaline earth metals, including magnesium and beryllium, in proportions corresponding to the respective meta-zirconate compound or compounds.
