Abstract

658,431. Typewriters. TORPEDO-WERKE AKT.-GES., FAHRRADAR UND SCHREIBMASCHINEN. April 19, 1949, No. 10372. Convention date, July 16, 1948. [Class 100 (iv)] In a type-lever machine, type bars 2 which have become jammed together near the printing position are released by depression of the shift key. As shown, the type-lever-operated universal-bar 4 and associated parts 5, 6, 9, together with their carrying frame 8 move upwardly when the shift key is depressed, and a pawl member 13 is provided which by engagement during such movement with a bar 10 joining the parts 6 causes the bar 4 to move forward to free the jammed type bars. If the machine is of the carriage-shift type, the pawl is provided on the carriage frame and moves past the bar 10 when the shift key is depressed. Two pawls 13 situated close to the respective members 6 may be provided to prevent buckling of the bar 10 &c.
