631,443. Typewriters &c. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. June 3, 1946, No. 11117/48. Convention date, March 3, 1944. Divided out of 631,379. Drawings to Specification. [Class 100 (iv)] [Also in Group XIX] A calculating-machine has a front-feed platen for supporting a record sheet, mechanism for moving the platen from open-throat to closed-throat position and vice versa, and arrangements for coupling a power drive to the said moving mechanism so that the platen may be positively driven from one position to the other and vice versa. In the embodiment described, the platen is moved to the openthroat position when a key provided for this purpose is depressed. The next depression of the key causes the platen to return to closed or printing position. The platen is moved to closed position (if open) when any numeral key is operated or when certain control keys are depressed or when the machine functions initiated by these control keys are started instead by cams on the paper carriage. The platen is moved to open-throat position near the end of each machine operation unless this movement is inhibited by cams on the carriage. The embodiment described is a calculating- machine as disclosed in Specification 631 379.
