[Class 65(ii)] [Also in Groups XI and XIII] A backsplash panel 14 of an electric range carries on its front instrument and heat control equipment and is hinged at the rear of the cooking top 12 so as to tilt from an upright position to a horizontal position over the cooking top. The hollow panel 14 has pivoted thereon at 63 a link 52 with a pin 61 sliding in an arcuate groove 57 in a stationary hinge section 51 fixed in a pedestal 13 at the rear of the cooking top; and the hinge also comprises a C-shaped guide link 53 pivoted at its ends 63, 64 to the panel 14 and the pedestal 13. The length of the groove 57 prevents the switch controls 25 on the panel 14 from contacting the cooking top when the panel is lowered. A latch bar 71 sliding on the rear of the pedestal 13 is of C cross section and has slots 78 which in the unlatched position allow movement of an extension 52a on the hinge link 52. When the panel 14 is upright, a hot plate on the cooking top is removed allowing access to a pivoted handle 79 below the pedestal, whereby the bar 71 is moved so as to engage the extension 52a on the link 52 and prevent the panel 14 from being lowered.
