Abstract

656,672. High-frequency transmission lines. SPERRY CORPORATION. Sept. 6, 1948, No. 23452. Convention date, Sept. 5, 1947. [Class 40 (viii)] In a high-frequency transmission line in which two conductors are fixed relatively to each other by a structure which is electrically resonant at the transmission frequency of the line, impedances are placed in the line on each side of this structure which exhibit series resonance at the transmission frequency. At the exact design frequency these impedances are zero and do not affect the operation, but at frequencies varying from that designed, these impedances reduce the standing waves produced by the supporting structure and permit the line to be used for a broader band of frequencies than would be otherwise possible. The examples show the structure as a stub 13 on a coaxial line. In Fig. 6 the inner conductor of the line on each side of the stub includes an open-ended coaxial line section 30 or 31 of length #/4 where # is the design frequency. In Fig. 10 the outer conductor of the line includes closed-ended sections 35 and 36 of length #/2. It is also possible to use closed-ended sections of #/2 length in the inner and open-ended sections of A4 in the outer.
