Abstract
627,091. Electric resonators and transmission lines. HAZELTINE CORPORATION. Feb. 28, 1947, No. 5857. Convention date, March 30, 1946. [Class 40 (viii)] A high-frequency transmission system including longitudinally extending conducting members 11 and 12 which define a space for the propagation of electromagnetic waves, is tuned by a short-circuiting member 20 adjusted longitudinally of the propagating space and a loading element 21 is supported for movement during tuning of the device relative to the shortcircuiting member and is positioned in a region where there is substantial longitudinal shift of the magnetic and electric fields during tuning. The presence of the loading element markedly alters the tuning sensitivity. In the example shown, the line and tuning member are coaxial elements and the loading member is mounted on the line by supports 31 and 32 which have a length substantially equal to one-quarter of the mean operating wavelength. The loading member may be conductive, or a non-conducting material of high dielectric constant, or a poor conductor of high magnetic permeability.
