[Class 94(i)] [Also in Group VI] Water vapour and oxygen are removed from the atmosphere within closed container of a substance which deteriorates in the presence of water-vapour or oxygen, ment, by means of a getter within the container. The getter 18, Figs. 2 and 3, e.g. calcium, barium, a calcium-barium alloy, may be placed within an ampoule in a part thereof remote e.g. a foodstuff, a serum, a surgical or scientific instrufrom the substance 10 tc be preserved, the ampoule evacuated and filled with an inert gas such as nitrogen or argon, the getter caused by eddy current high frequency heating tc form a deposit 18<SP>1</SP> on the wall of the ampoule, the ampoule again evacuated and finally sealed.
