Abstract
656,055. Control of A.C. motors. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and WEST, R. A. Feb. 13, 1947, No. 4179. [Class 38(iii)] In a control system for electric motors driving a travelling crane or the like structure having running wheels supported on running rails at opposite ends or sides of the structure, electric motors are arranged either as a single pair with one motor at each end of the structure or as one or more pairs at each end of the structure for driving the running wheel or wheels at that end, said electric motors being alternating- current slip-ring motors, the primary or stator windings of the motors of each pair being connected in parallel and controlled simultaneously by a common control gear, the rotor circuits of the motors in each pair, including their resistances, being isolated from each other. As shown, the stator windings of motors M1, M2, are energized from three-phase source L1, L2, L3, through a common main contactor Cm and common forward and reverse contactors Cf and Cb respectively. A primary resistor Rp is adapted to be short-circuited by contactors Cr. The rotor circuits comprise separate resistor sections R51 and R52, these sections being arranged so that maximum torque is provided when starting. Sections of the resistor Rp may be arranged in all three phases. An auto-transformer may replace the primary resistors. Preferably the primary circuit contactors are controlled by a single drum. The star-point of the secondary resistance of either motor may be opened when the corresponding end of the structure is leading by more than a given amount. When pairs of motors M1, M2, are situated at opposite ends of a long bridge each pair has a common control drum which is ganged to that of the other pair. Individual controller operation is allowed in the event of misalignment. A master controller may be provided for both pairs of motors, each, pair having its starpoint secondary connections controllable in common.
