Abstract

655,965. Floors; ceilings; walls; lattice girders. CHADWICK. L. R. Dec. 9, 1948, No. 31931. [Class 20(iv)] A building unit for making floors, ceilings or walls consists of a skeletal framework to which is secured the surfacing panels, the framework being in the form of a single row of pyramidal frames having their bases coplanar and connected together and their apices also coplanar and interconnected, the panels forming the wall ceiling or floor surface being secured to the bases. In the form shown, the unit comprises two parallel struts 10 connected by cross struts 11 and 12. From each corner of the square frames thus formed, struts 13 extend to meet at apices which lie above the mid point of each strut 12, the apices being interconnected by a strut 14. Bracing struts 15 connect strut 14 to each strut 11. A panel 16 of flooring or wall surfacing material is secured to and serves to brace the base of each pyramid. The struts are made of extruded aluminium alloy or steel sections, the side struts 10 being formed with tongues and grooves, Fig. 4, (not shown), so that where a number of units are laid side by side to form a floor, they can be interlocked along their edges. Ceiling panels are secured to struts 14.
