Abstract
655,514. Electrolytic polishing of aluminium or aluminium alloys. PROGONIKER, L. Oct. 28, 1948, No. 28041. [Class 41] The metal surface is submitted to electrolytic action with alternating current in a bath consisting mainly of an alkali-metal cyanide. The bath may also contain a retardant such as sodium sulpho-cyanide or sodium sulphate and may also have a small proportion of an organic colloid for example gelatine or casein. If the surface is required for the reception of dyes it may be subjected to anodic oxidation after the polishing treatment. According to the Provisional Specification at temperatures below 50‹ C. the process of the invention results in oxidation of the aluminium or its alloys.
