Abstract
655,194. Printing ; spraying apparatus. AMERICAN TYPE FOUNDERS SALES CORPORATION. March 5, 1948, No. 6936. Convention date, May 14, 1947. [Class 100 (ii)] Set-off, preventing.-A dry powder sprayer comprises a powder chamber and a cover connected thereto, a spray nozzle means on the lower part of the chamber and having a passage extending upwardly in the chamber and having an inlet opening in the upper part of the chamber, means for supplying air to the powder to produce a cloud to flow to the inlet of the passage to the nozzle, and in the cover an air passage, and valve means for controlling the flow of air to an air discharge means leading to the chamber, and controlling the flow of air to the spray nozzle passage. A container 51, Figs. 1 and 3, for powder 113 has a cover 52 secured to it by a screw-shank 117, tube 120 and flange 123. Compressed air from a compressing means associated with a printing machine is supplied by way of a hollow post 66 connected to the machine, a box 63, tube 68 and passage 72 to a valve chamber 76. When the pressure reaches a certain amount, an adjustable spring-loaded control valve 84 is raised to allow a charge of air to pass to a valve chamber 81 and thence past an adjustable valve 110 into the container as an impulse to produce a cloud of powder and air therein. Air also passes through a chamber 115 and nozzle 130 within the tube 120, thereby drawing the powder through inlets 128 and down the tube 120, the mixture being emitted from the spray nozzle 126. A hollow float 144, Fig. 12, rests on the surface of the powder surrounding the tube 120 and is connected by means of an inlet 146 and a flexible tube to the air nozzle 108, which may be vertical, or inclined and rotatable. The air impulses pass out through downwardly directed openings 153, 154 to produce the cloud. The float may be of simple annular shape, or may be annular with portions protruding inwards. The mixture may be sprayed directly through the part 126, Fig. 3, or alternatively two tubes 132, Fig. 1, may be used with spray nozzles at their other ends, or further couplings 133 and tubes 136 may be used for use with larger sheets to be sprayed. The tubes 132 may be U-shaped and connected to further inverted U-tubes having spraynozzles by swivel connections. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 641,606.
