654,810. Supply systems depending on two sources. COURT, P. R. J., and PYE, Ltd. Nov. 24, 1948, No. 30574. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL (c)] A high-tension supply arrangement for operation from either an alternating or a direct current supply and having input terminals 12, 15 for connection to the supply, a rectifier 10 and a smoothing circuit comprising capacitors 14, 19 and an inductance 16 consisting of at least one choke is provided with " switching means 22 to arrange that the load current flows through the rectifier and the whole of the inductance when operating on an A.C. supply but through only a part of the inductance and not through the rectifier when operating on a D.C. supply. This arrangement obviates most of the voltage drop when supplying apparatus, such as A.C./D.C. radio receivers from D.C. supplies. In a modification the inductance may comprise only one winding suitably tapped.
