Abstract
654,514. Exfoliating silicates. BLATTNER, R. H. June 1, 1948, No. 14769. [Classes 22 and 70] [Also in Group XII] Sub-divided complex silicate ores are carried by a gas stream to a combustion zone, where exfoliation occurs, and out of said zone, and cooled and collected. The ore is fed to a screw conveyer 23 and falls to an air injection tube 5 and is carried through an opening 5a into a combustion tube 1 heated by burners 19 supplied through pipes 15 for air and 17 for gas fuel. The air for the tube 5 passes through pipe 8, and this air may be preheated by passage through pipes 30 and 32 and heat exchanger 29. This latter cools the exfoliated material which is collected in a bin 34. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the apparatus is adapted also to feed the air into the furnace in known manner.
