Abstract

654,127. Circular conveyers. ELECTRIC FURNACE CO., Ltd. Sept. 7, 1948, No. 23522. [Class 78 (i)] A machine for handling pins includes a magazine A for receiving the pins with their axes vertical and their lower ends supported on an upper stop E, means B<1> for disengaging each pin in turn from the upper stop to allow it to fall until the major part of its length is clear of the magazine, a lower stop F to limit the fall of each pin in turn and to support it by its lower end in this position, a clamp D arranged to grip the upper part of the pin when the latter is in the fallen position, and means for removing the lower stop from the pin to allow the pin to hang freely from the clamp. Figs. 1 and 2. As shown, the magazine or disc A is driven to rotate about shaft B and has a circular ring of vertical holes A<2> for the pins. Pins are dropped one into each hole A<2> at the point C<1> and rest freely upon the upper stop of skid-track E. The pins are carried around one by one whilst resting on the upper stop E till they reach point C<2> where each pin in turn falls off the end of the upper stop E and is caught and supported at its lower end by rotating platform or lower stop F driven by and at the same speed as disc A. As the pin thus drops, clamp D, pivoted to and carried by ring A and biassed by spring D<3>, strikes fixed cam B<1> at its upper end D<2> and is momentarily displaced to permit the pin to drop. As the pin moves past point C<2> the clamp D is released to grip the pin at its upper end as the latter moves off the temporary support of lower stop F and the pin thus held dangling in space is traversed through heating coil G to be heated for forging and at 24 it is released by the upper end D<2> of the second clamp D striking a second fixed cam B<2> and then is discharged under gravity. The position of clamp B2 may be altered by screw K and pin-and-slot L, and the height of lower stop F is adjustable.
