653,873. Closures for containers. PODESTA, A. Aug. 3, 1948, Nos. 20475 and 20476. Convention dates, Aug. 2, 1947, and Feb. 7, 1948. [Classes 66 and 125(iii) ] A closure C for a bottle or like container R having an outer rigid annular bead A near its mouth has a restricted mouth portion B with an internal peri- meter which is smaller than the outer perimeter of the bead A, and an inpressed central portion so as to provide an annular groove S in which at least part of packing material may be inserted or deformed to permit the inclination of the closure with respect to the bottle during its application or removal. The cap C may have an annular gasket T. preferably of rubber tubing, as shown in Fig. 5. The cap shown in Fig. 6 has a curved border K enclosing a ring B<SP>1</SP> of metal or hard flexible material, and a packing disc G, e.g. of rubber, cork, foil, waterproof cardboard &c.
