Abstract

652,581. Knife sharpeners. LASSMAN & CO., Ltd., LASSMAN, S., and FREEDENBERG, D. Nov. 4, 1948, No. 28666. [Class 60] A knife sharpener comprises a pair of flat metal strips 4, 5 in facial contact and each carrying at one end a cutting edge, and a handle 1 within which the strips are enclosed so as to constitute an internal reinforcement for the handle, the strips being so arranged that the two cutting edges 7, 8 are disposed in vee formation, and the handle being so formed as to leave the cutting edges, accessible for sharpening purposes. In the preferred embodiment, two identical strips are riveted together and the sharpening edges are casehardened. The handle, which may be in two parts, is of a lightweight material, such as plastic, and is moulded around the strips which are provided with a hole 11 to facilitate their location in the mould. The cutting edges may be formed from plates of cemented carbide or other material which are brazed or welded to the reinforcing strips. Specification 562,423 is referred to.
