Abstract
650,580. Bird-feeding devices. PALMER, L. G. Feb. 26, 1948, No. 5871. [Class 5(ii)] Dry foods are supplied to birds by a hopper 1 whose restricted discharge end 5 lies within a shallow feeding tray 6, the latter being fitted with perches 11, and with an element 8 which projects into the hopper and moves relatively to it, thereby agitating the food, when a bird alights on or takes off from a perch. By this arrangement the tray is replenished with food from the hopper. In the construction shown the agitator 8 is supported on a spring 9 within the hopper. The hopper is fitted with a rain shield 16, and with a cover 2 which is held in place against wind action by pivoted loops 15 which engage over pins 12 extending from the hopper. These pins act also as a pivotal support for the hopper by passing through an annulus 13 which is carried by a yoke 14. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the agitator passes through a vertical tube which is met obliquely by the lower end of the hopper.
