Abstract

649,858. Variable capacity bags. MULLER, J. Aug. 13, 1948, No. 21414. [Class 133] In a shopping-bag which can be folded into a hand-bag of smaller capacity, the outer surface of one wall of the shopping- bag is partially covered with leather or like material whereby the folded hand-bag is completely covered externally by such material. As shown in Fig. 1, a shopping- bag comprises two strips 3, 4 of canvas or other foldable textile fabric secured at their edges 5, 6, 7, the strip 3 being partially covered by a sheet 11 of leather leaving uncovered portions 12, 13. The strip 4 carries an inner pocket 14 closed by a sliding clasp fastener 15, the pocket having substantially half the area of the sheet 11. The portions 12, 13 may be folded inwardly along lines 18, 19, and the bag folded upon itself along the minor axis of the sheet 11 to produce a hand-bag, as shown in Fig. 2. The bag is secured in this latter condition by press studs 20, and a flap 21 on the sheet 11 engages in a slot 22.
