Abstract

649,704. Automatic control systems. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. June 17, 1946, No. 18171. Convention date, June 16, 1945. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Groups XX and XL (c)] In a stabilization system for stabilizing the operation of apparatus such as radio-scanners on a tiltable platform such as an aircraft, a stabilized horizontal plane is defined by a gyrovertical (see Group XX) whose axis 37 is maintained horizontal irrespective of the movement of the ring 23 with the craft by means of a servomotor 45, which tilts the gyro-casing 31 by means of gearing 46 and 47 in response to signals from a pick-off device 40 detecting tilt of the inner ring 35 about the axis 36. The inclinations of the ring 23 and through linkage 25, 26 of the radio-scanner reflector are controlled and stabilized by pick-offs 38 and 39 in the manner described in Specification 649,703.
