Abstract

649,378. Driving belts. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Nov. 24, 1948, No. 30536. [Class 80(i)] A V-belt, particularly for use with expanding pulleys, comprises a series of spaced uniform bars 10 bolted to one face of a continuous band 5. The band 5 may be of leather, balata or of multi-ply fabric completely coated with rubber. The bars may be formed of lengths of narrow V- belting composed of layers of leather sewn together with copper wire. The bars 10 have inclined driving faces 15 and are rounded at 29 to avoid cutting the band. Each bar is secured by two bolts 17, a metal plate 18 being interposed between the band 5 and lock nuts 19. The abutting ends 21 of a piece of belting may be joined by a length 22 of rubberized fabric bolted to the two ends in place of a number of the plates 18, washers 23 being placed between the lock nuts 19 and the fabric 22.
