Abstract
649,220. Liquid level pressure gauges. DOBBIE McINNES, Ltd., and MORE, J. Oct. 21, 1948, No. 27428. [Class 106 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] A liquid depth or ship's draught or displacement gauge of the manometer kind described in Specification 627,864, is arranged to measure, e.g. the liquid depth in a tank 14 which may be either open or closed to atmosphere, in the latter case, the space above the liquid may be at a pressure other than atmospheric. The control valve of the gauge, comprising two interconnected diaphragms adapted to seat alternately, interconnects in one position passages 7 from a compressed air source, 6 from the sight-tube of the manometer, 5 from the bottom of the tank and 4 from the manometer reservoir, and in another position disconnects passages 6, 7 from passages 4, 5 and connects passage 6 to a passage 8 communicating with the space 8B above the liquid if the tank is closed, or with atmosphere at 8A if the tank is open. Passages 4, 5 are always interconnected. It is stated that where the manometer is placed in a compartment subject to a pressure greater than atmospheric, the passage 8 is used to connect the sight-tube to a space at atmospheric pressure.
