Abstract

647,088. Drying sand. COWBURN, A. M. March 16, 1948, No. 7878. Convention date, March 24, 194. [Class 34(ii)] A sand dryer comprises an open ended cylindrical container 3 supported on legs 4 welded to plates 5 affixed to the container, the legs having feet 6. A screen 9 is fitted across the mouth of the container 3 above a hopper 10 which is of inverted truncated conical form open at both ends, the lower end having 'within it a cone 11 attached to a cone 12 which has supports 13, escape vents 14 and baffle plates 15. A discharge regulating band 16 is controlled by screwstuds 17. Heat is supplied to cones 11, 12 by gas' burners 20 having supports 21 attached to inverted cone 22 on supports 23, a sieve 24 being supported in frame 25. In operation the sand 'enters hopper 10 through screen 9, its flow being confined through the annular space between cones 10, 11; it then passes over cone 12 to the space inside the regulating band 16 whence it falls to the cone 22 and sieve 24. A modification is coke-fired, the gas burner being replaced by a baffle arrangement and a flue connecting the dryer to a coke burner.
