Abstract
646,430. Velocity-modulated tubes. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. May 15, 1947, No. 13131. Convention date, May 15, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] In a reflex velocity-modulated tube, the beam from the cathode K passes across a gap in the cavity resonator C formed by a pair of grids AB, and then impacts a secondary emission electrode P, the emission from which passes into a space A<SP>1</SP> B<SP>1</SP> of the cavity resonator which is not in coincidence with the space formed by the grids A, B. As shown, the primary and secondary electron beams are reflected by an electrode R. The electrodes K, Rand P are coaxial of the annular cavity resonator C. The secondary electrode P may be cooled. There may be several stages of electron multiplication, either on solid surfaces arranged in cascade or on a network of grids. In a modification the reflector electrode R is replaced by a secondary emission electrode, and additional electrodes may be provided for focusing the stream of secondary electrons. The cavity resonator may have two non-contiguous re-entrant parts where the electrons traverse the resonator. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also arrangements not involving secondary emission. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
