Abstract
646,386. Discharge lamps. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. Aug. 7, 1947, No. 21687. Convention date, Feb. 15, 1939. [Class 39 (i)] In an electric gaseous discharge device such as a fluorescent lamp, a coiled oxide-coated wire filament 5 is supported with its axis straight and in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the envelope by two lead-in wires clamped to the ends of the filament, at 10, and having portions 3, 4 lying in the same plane as, and on opposite sides of the filament to act as starting electrodes when the filament carries a current sufficient to heat it to an electron-emitting temperature. The spacing of each end of the filament from the portion of the lead-in wire connected to the opposite end of the filament is less than the length of the filament. The portions 3, 4 of the lead-in wires are parallel to each other and to the filament; the filament may, however, extend obliquely between them. The filament may be a coiled-coil.
