Abstract

<PICT:0645626/III/1> <PICT:0645626/III/2> A gas separator, e.g. for removing air and vapour from fuel in aircraft fuelling systems, comprises a container 1, Fig. 1, having a gas outlet 58, Fig. 2, and a liquid outlet 24 controlled by valves 51, 29, respectively. The valves 51, 29 are connected to floats 9, 33, respectively by lever mechanisms, an adjustable spring 15 being provided to compensate for the weight of the float 9. The fuel from an inlet 3 enters an annular duct 2 communicating with the container through ports 5, 6, any gas separating in the duct passing the ports 6, while the liquid passes through the ports 5. As the float 33 rises, the valve 29 opens until a rod 35 extending from the float abuts a stop in the float 9. Should the level rise sufficiently to lift the float 9, both floats will rise together to close the gas valve and fully open the liquid valve. Both valves are substantially balanced, having central bores, so that the pressure in the container acts on their opposed faces.
