644,567. Adjusting radio apparatus. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. June 19, 1946, No. 18443. Convention date, May 8, 1944. [Class 40 (v)] The external driving means of a resilientlymounted component are connected to the movable parts through a coupling secured to the component and serving to increase the force applied to the moving parts. As shown, Fig. 2, a sliding condenser 2 mounted on springs 3, 4, is driven from a knob 10 through a cord 11. Lever arms 15, 16 pivoted to guide-rods 7, 8, engage studs 17, 18, which carry the sliding electrodes 9. The free end of levers 15, 16 pass through a loop in the driving cord 11. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), a rotary condenser is controlled by a drum and cord drive through two gear-wheels, so proportioned that the driving force applied to the condenser is at least five times the force applied by the cord and pulley drive. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4, the rotor of a resiliently-mounted condenser 50 is driven through gearing by a pin 58, eccentrically mounted on the shaft of a knob 56 and engaging a slot in an arm 59 carried by a shaft 55. The slot is made wider than the pin to prevent oscillations being transferred to the condenser.
