[Class 37] Means for eliminating the effects of stray fields on the measuring equipment of pH responsive electrodes comprises the addition of electrostatic shields 11, 12 over the halfcell 10, extending from below the surface of the test liquid 37 and overlapping, but insulated from, a metal cap 15 attached to the shield 17 of the lead 16 connecting the half-cell to the measuring equipment 38. The pH value is determined by measuring the voltage difference between the electrode 10 and a standard reference electrode 20. The two shields 11, 12 may be amalgamated, and may be spaced from the glass tube 14, or directly on its surface. Specifications 560,212 and 567,882 are referred to.
