Abstract
643,848. Resilient engine mountings; elastic-fluid turbines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General Electric Co.). Oct. 24, 1946, No. 31628. [Classes 110(iii) and 122(iii)] In a machine set comprising a driving machine and a driven machine each having a separate casing, the casings have mutually engaging curved surfaces to permit slight angular deviations of the casings from their normal coaxial positions, The casing of the generator 16, Fig. 1, is rigidly attached to the carrying truck 10, and the casing of the turbine 19 is rigidly attached at its exhaust end 41 to the truck and at its inlet end 20 is attached to the generator casing by means of a ball-andsocket joint 34, 44. The turbine is connected to the condenser 26 by a conical member 27 which encloses the rear bearing 30. This bearing is protected from the heat of the working fluid by a double casing 38, 39, having the space between the casings vented to atmosphere. The plant is also supported by a bearing located in the ball- and-socket joint and a bearing at the outboard end of the generator. The auxiliaries such as oil pump and governor are located in a duct formed in the conical member 27.
