Abstract

643,224. Cutting webs transversely. AUTOPACK (LONDON), Ltd., LEE, G. A., SMITH, A. R., and HOPKINS, C. J. June 25, 1948, No. 17129. [Class 31 (i)] Apparatus for cutting paper or like sheet material comprises a grooved supporting table a provided with a bar q for clamping the material b and a thin cutting blade d mounted in a carrier e slidable along a guide f. The carrier is propelled across the material by springs g on opposite ends of the guide and alternately compressed and released by a reciprocatory bar i carrying a pair of pawls which alternately engage the blade carrier and press it against the springs in turn. As shown in Fig. 1, movement of the bar i to the left causes the left-hand pawl j to press the blade carrier against the spring until the pawl contacts stop o and is tilted thereby, whereupon the pawl releases the carrier which is propelled along the guide by the force of the spring and is arrested at the other end of the guide by the other spring and pawl. The bar i is reciprocated by means of link n coupled to a rotating member m.
