Abstract
642,927. Locking nuts. CONTRACTOR, E. N. Sept. 17, 1947, No, 25434. Convention date, July 12,1944. [Class 89(i)] Nuts 5 carry a number of pins 8 secured by riveting or welding at 17. The pins may be screwed into the nuts. A locking plate 9 has a ring of holes 10 and slides over the pins 8 the number of holes being a multiple of that of the pins to afford a choice of engaging positions. A polygonal projection 11 on the plate engages in a corresponding recess in the end of the bolt and a split pin passes through holes in the plate and bolt to retain the parts in engagement. In a modification the plate is slotted or holed to engage the end of the bolt, under this form only the bolt is drilled for the pin. If finer adjustment to secure tightness of the joint is required, washers 16 of various thicknesses may be employed under the bolthead which may have an integral flange 4.
