[Class 131] In a dry shaver of the type having an outer and an inner cutter each of which is slotted to provide cutter bars and at least one of which is reciprocated relatively to the other, the shearing portion of the outer cutter is thinner than the adjacent combing portions and is formed with spaced rows of rectangular perforations defining cutter bars having cutting edges extending transversely across the shearing portion, the cutting edges of each row being offset with regard to those of an adjacent row and co-operating with cutter bars extending obliquely across the inner cutter at an angle corresponding to the offset of the cutting edges of the outer cutter. As shown the stationary outer cutter 20 comprising a curved shearing portion having cutter bars 34, lateral tangential portions with tapering combing bars 36, and having reinforcing corrugations 30 at each end, is stamped from flat steel stock and later subjected to bending and to heat-hardening treatment. The longitudinally reciprocating, hollow, cylindrical inner cutter 40 is concentric with the curved shearing portion of the outer cutter toward which it is urged by spring-pressed balls 42 and is provided with equally spaced cutter bars 46 inclined to a line at right angles to the axis of the head at the same angle as the angle of offset of the bars 34, 36 and spaced farther apart than the bars 34, 36.
